Our operating theatres are located on level 1 of the main hospital building, next to the coronary care and intensive care units. The location of the theatres allows for direct access to day admissions and the endoscopy and sterilising service, and ready access to the angiography and inpatient wards. A priority recall lift also connects the theatres to the helipad, emergency department, burns, maternity and neonatal wards.

The operating suite includes: 

  • a physically discrete and environmentally controlled environment to provide for emergency, elective and interventional procedures
  • 9 anaesthetic induction rooms
  • 16 operating theatres
  • 2 interventional theatres
  • 5 endoscopy suites
  • a biomedical workshop for quick repair of equipment
  • operating theatres:
    • pod 1: 8 rooms for cardiothoracic, trauma, major burns, plastics, orthopaedic, thoracics, vascular and spinal surgery
    • pod 2: 7 rooms for complex elective surgery including upper gastrointestinal, colorectal, general and complex laparoscopic, ear nose and throat (ENT), maxillary facial (MaxFax), urology, gynaecology, spinal neurosurgery, brachytherapy, breast surgery, paediatric and obstetrics (with an additional obstetric operating theatre located on level 3)
    • 20 holding bays
    • 37 first stage recovery bays
    • procedure room
    • cardiothoracic operating rooms have an additional services pendant for a heart-lung machine and direct access to a perfusion room
    • all operating rooms have High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration
    • temperature adjustable from 16 °C to 28 °C (burns operating rooms are able to be adjusted from 16 °C to 42 °C)
    • three shelled operating rooms for future fit out
  • intervention theatres:
    • induction room
    • control room and exit bay
    • locally operable temperature control down to 16°C where required
    • High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration
  • endoscopy suites:
    • three general endoscopy suites
    • one endoscopy suite for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
    • a bronchoscopy procedure room
    • a motility and manometry room
    • four holding bays.
