Festive magic arrived at Fiona Stanley Hospital with the paediatric ward welcoming Santa Claus and Mrs Claus as guests of honour at the annual Christmas party.

Nurse Unit Manager Liz Harvey said patients from the past year and their families were invited for an afternoon of fun.

“The day is all about the kids. They all still believe in the magic of Christmas.

“Some are under privileged and might not get the chance to celebrate Christmas at home and for those on the ward it brightened their day,” she said.

The party featured a face painter, clown doctors, superheroes including Wonder Woman, Dr Strange, Batman and Tinkerbell and of course Mr and Mrs Claus who came all the way from the North Pole with gifts for the kids.

“When a child is admitted to hospital it can be a very scary time for them and their family. By inviting them back to the ward for a fun event, we hope to make the process less daunting and a more positive, trusting experience.

“It is a pleasure and a reward for the staff to see the patient and their family return in a less stressful situation and fully recovered.”
