The Gastroenterology Department at Fiona Stanley Hospital provides outpatient and inpatient clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services including:

Specialised services are provided for:

  • endoscopic mucosal resection
  • treatment of Barrett’s oesophagus
  • stenting of neoplastic disease
  • insertion of percutaneous gastrostomy tubes.

We provide direct inpatient care for patients in a ward environment including management of haematemesis and melaena according to a specific clinical pathway.

We provide consultant-led general gastroenterology outpatient clinics with additional speciality clinics in:

  • interventional endoscopy
  • intestinal failure
  • inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • hepatology
  • viral hepatitis (in conjunction with the Infectious Diseases).

We also provide a limited number of nurse-led clinics.

A centralised waitlist for endoscopic procedures in the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) ensures the timely delivery of endoscopic services. Low complexity endoscopy services are provided at Fremantle Hospital (external site).
