Work in inclusive and innovative workplaces committed to professional development

Nursing and midwifery careers

We are uniquely positioned as an evolving and expanding health care provider in the fastest growing health service in WA – the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) (external site).

Our nurses and midwives work across clinical, managerial and education disciplines. Whether you are a graduate or an experienced nurse, we encourage you to find out more about our opportunities.

Graduate Nurse and Midwifery Program

We can offer you a positive and rewarding start to your professional career as well as the chance to be part of our friendly and dynamic nursing team.

Our Graduate Program is a 12-month fixed term contract with two clinical rotations of 6 months each. We have:

  • registered nurse intakes twice each year (February and August)
  • a registered midwifery intake once a year(February)
  • an enrolled nurse intake once a year (August).

Our staff are committed to providing a supportive environment where you will be assisted to develop clinical competence and safe practice.

All enrolled and registered nurse and midwifery graduates are required to apply for positions online at GradConnect (external site).

Mental Health Graduate Program for Registered Nurses

The Registered Nurse Graduate program (external site) offers a 12-month program in mental health nursing in partnership with Notre Dame University. Recruitment into this program is through the SMHS MH option via GradConnect, the WA Department of Health’s centralised graduate recruitment website.

During the program, graduates will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of practice settings, gaining a broad range of clinical experience, and be provided with regular and ongoing clinical support, through site-based preceptorship model.
