Cancer centre

Our cancer centre provides care for adult patients with cancer and haematological malignancies (types of cancers that affect blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes). We care for patients who are being looked after by a number of medical specialties including:

  • medical oncology
  • radiation oncology
  • haematology
  • surgical oncology
  • palliative care.

Outpatient and day therapy services are located on the ground floor. Our comprehensive cancer centre has been developed around a private courtyard and features a separate entrance and drop-off area to improve privacy for patients and their visitors.

Our cancer centre includes:

  • 22 consulting/interview rooms for cancer outpatients
  • a chemotherapy unit with 18 chemotherapy bays and four enclosed single bedrooms
  • a day therapy unit with eight assessment bays including one four-bed room for aphaeresis (the process where blood is put through a machine to separate out components)
  • a radiation oncology suite on the lower ground floor with four linear accelerators, radiation therapy planning and dosimetry facilities (to measure and calculate radiation doses)
  • the breast centre on level 1 (with separate entrance).

Our cancer service also includes:

  • medical and radiation oncology (located on level 7)
  • surgical beds for cancer patients
  • haematology, including the State bone marrow transplant service
  • a comprehensive chemotherapy service for inpatients, outpatients and ambulatory care
  • a consultative palliative care service
  • a specialised pharmacy for the preparation of chemotherapy agents
  • a dedicated breast service offering advanced screenings, specialist doctors and counselling services.

Surgery for a range of cancers (including head and neck, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma, breast, gastrointestinal, lung and urological) is performed at our hospital. We also provide reconstructive surgery.
